Recent events in this Great Lakes Region have again brought to the fore the case of the murderous armed militia, their warlords and their political backers. The involvement of the US Army Seals in the hunt for LRA's Joseph Kony in the Central African Republic (CAR) has already netted one of his generals, Caesar Acellam; and, the active fight the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) army against CNDD's Bosco Ntaganda has resulted in villagers in the Eastern DRC streaming into Uganda and Rwanda.

Kony is already indicted in the international Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague for grenocide and crimes against humanity. Now, outgoing ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo is heaping more crimes against Ntaganda, the Swartzenegger-type "Terminator", for the atrocities he is cvoimmmitting against the people in the eastewrn DRC.

France, in the most important of recent European elections to Africa, will bring with it ridicule and dilemmas to Africa's leadership. Ridicule,  because it exposes the lack of Africa's politicians to embrace democracy as it should be; and dilemma as there is embarrassment that this leadership has woefully failed to sort out the problems for which they are in power.

The election of Francois Hollande to Elysee Palace is not only shaking Europe, but the chill is being felt not only in Francophone Africa, but elsewhere, too. Hollande has declared to the consternation, especially of Germany's Angela Merkle, that the recent European Union (EU) agreements on the austerity measures to its financial crisis have to be renegotiated.

As much as Africa would have prayed that Nigeria's Finance minister, Ms. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, would be chosen as the next World Bank (WB) president, the cards were firmly stacked against her. The main reason was her opponent, the American, Jim Young Kim.

Firstly, it is a tradition that the US chooses the WB president, because alongside Europe, who names the International Monetary Fund (IMF) boss, they supply more than 40% of the WB finances that is lent to the rest of the world, particularly the impoverished Third World countries. So when President Barack Obama forwarded Prof. Kim's name for the post, it rang as a foregone conclusion that they would "elect" him as the WB president.
