NRM a mass party, or an amorphus party?
Rubanda West MP, Henry Banyenzaki has proposed that the vetting of President Yoweri Museveni's political appointees should be placed in the hands of the opposition because it is better equipped to block unqualified and unsuitable NRM nominees from getting into public office.
Independent Henry
Basking under the colours of 'NRM Rebel', Banyenzaki gave the above prescription in reaction to reports of some NRM heavyweights flagging forged academic credentials.
This NRM MP is now fully convinced that his party is incapable of making the right choices, which is why he wants his own majority to hand over responsibility to the minority in parliament. Wait! Before you rush to conclusions, Hon Henry Banyenzaki is a staunch member of the National Resistance Movement and only wishes it well in his own unconventional way.
And he is not alone among those who have threatened to remain NRM representatives but via INDEPENDENT CANDIDATURE, which is not illegal but extremely harmful.
Mbarara fiasco
In Kashaari, FDC's Maj. John Bashaija Kazoora is backing NRM's Wilberforce Yaguma Rutashokwa to oust MP Urban Tibamanya, who is also State Minister for Urban Development.
Yaguma is the Mbarara District Chairman who is heavily implicated in dipping his hand into the public coffers, if the findings of the Muliira Presidential Probe are anything to go by.
Information leaked to me says that if Yaguma loses to Tibamanya in the NRM primaries he will back FDC's John Kazoora for MP but will himself not desert the NRM which he "loves so much". But if he wins the Kashaari primaries, he will then race against the very John Kazoora now backing him to defeat Tibamanya!
Indisplined NRM
If there is any political party whose other name is INDISCIPLINE, that party is the ruling National Resistance Movement.
As Daily Monitor aptly (and painfully for true party members) put it, this was a VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE in the political organisation that is charged with supervising the next general election. In fact, those who knew they would certainly lose the elections have now been given a tailor-made excuse for their predictable failure and another lease of life from our gullible donors.
By the way the NRM's latest problems are a result of sacrificing WISDOM for POPULARITY. The replacement of Electoral Colleges with Universal Adult Suffrage in choosing candidates has proved a Pandora's Box, a can of worms and a classic replay of the Tower of Babel.
I am smugly happy that I accurately predicted these sad developments last year and more are still to be confirmed as NRM fights NRM.
I have always insisted that any political party with branches that are alive and kicking would not shirk the responsibility of leading the masses by HANDING OVER COMMAND to the masses.
The local NRM branch in Sembabule, for instance, would know all its giants and identify what each of them does best. What NRM has done is to allow each of the rival contestants to become a branch of the party, with disastrous results.
Glorious fraud
In the case of Mbarara, I saw coverage of the district in two of our leading newspapers and the picture both painted was extremely rosy.
No mention was made of the fact that the Muliira Commission had found massive fraud in the administration of the district, deeply implicating Chairman Yaguma.
They found that a sun-burnt brick which goes for Shs 100 elsewhere in Uganda costs between Shs 10,000 and Shs 15,000 in Mbarara! In fact Muliira recommended that President Museveni directly takes over administration of the district to save it from disaster.
I am saying that the local NRM branch would know what to do when those tainted with corruption present themselves for higher office. The ordinary voters are usually incapable of seeing beyond the day's needs, which these suspects readily provide.
Amorphus Party
In short order, the ruling NRM, which prides itself of being a MASS PARTY has also apparently surrendered the leadership of the Mass Party to the MASSES, making it the most AMORPHOUS PARTY of the century.
One final word; Oscar Wilde describes a Cynic as "one who knows the value of everything and the price of nothing".
