A total of three University students: Fred Juma from Nkumba University, Kariisa and Murug Daniel from Kampala International University(KIU) won the Pilsner Spin Master II Inter University quarterfinals held at Nkumba University over the weekend.
Fred Juma a.k.a DJ Yankee took on the turntables and beat other competitors to emerge overall winner; Kariisa who also put up a good fight took the second position while Murug Daniel took the third position. Platinum DJs, the Judges for night explained that Fred Juma was confident, unique and more daring than his counterparts. He showed great skill and also managed to get the crowd dancing along to his tunes.
DJ Yankee played local tracks like Dr. Chameleone's "Vumilia" which inspired students to scream on top of their voices and dance to the tune of his music.
"I am so excited about winning. When I heard that Pilsner Spin Master II was coming to the universities, I practiced hard every day. This is a big opportunity for me to show my skills to the world. I am confident that I will win at the Grand Finale because I have been able to beat all the other university students." Juma vowed upon his win.
The event which was attended by a mammoth crowd of anxious students started well despite the rain drizzles that threatened to turn in to a massive down power. Students were excited by the prospect of taking a much deserved break from studies.
Sheila Kemigisha student from Makerere Business School (MUBS) was the first female to break in to the male dominated chain. She spun the turntables amidst ululations from the students, but unfortunately she didn't make it to the top three.
Raba Daba who was the main attraction of the night wowed the crowd with his "Mukyaamu", "Omunya" hits. He swung his dreadlocks and danced to the thrill of students.
The inter-university competition was attended by six universities including the hosts Nkumba University, MUBS, KIU, Nkozi among others.
