Clubs in mad dash to sign new players

In the middle and at the end of the season, in each league all over the world, clubs release and secure new signing of players and renew contracts of those players they feel are still assets to them.

In Uganda, the league officially ended on July 11 and the clubs started noting players whom they think will help them win matches in the next season.  By this time, League champions Bunamwaya are set for the challenges at the continental level where they will be Uganda's flag bearers in the CAF Champion's league while Victors are expected to play in the Confederation cup next season.

Troubled SC Villa is also in for a big recruitment drive having suffered most in the outgoing season where, in one game, they fielded seven players in a game against Police FC.

According to reliable sources, Villa coach Sulaiman Kato was given money to secure signatures of players intended to revive the Jogoo glory.
On the other hand, after the Sudan trip, Express's Waswa Bbosa said they will recruit few players to supplement the talents they already have. "We want only a few talents to compliment our players," Bbosa said.

Bunamwaya's Edward Ggolola confirmed that in their preparation for the CAF Champion's league, they have to repackage their team. "We have to sign on new players to strengthen our side to match the sides we will meet in the Champions league," Ggolola said.

Last season's chaos
It may be noted that all the clubs in the outgoing league have no income generating venture worth talking about. They are known to depend on their respective patrons to facilitate their activities. This has meant that the teams have had to battle with financial crises when it comes to paying players wages as well as in facilitating their teams when going for continental tournaments.

A case in point is when SC Villa won the Kakungulu Cup in 2009. The club failed to represent Uganda in the Confederation's Cup which it had qualified for only because it was financially overstretched.

KCC FC was in crisis due to over offloading. Many of the club's dependable players left for other clubs due to non-payment thus throwing KCC in a 100m hole which is likely to cost the club almost four seasons before it fully revives. Players including Brain Umony, Robert Ssentongo Patrick Senfuka, Benjamin Ochan, Sam Mubiru and Sam Senoga together with Coach George "best" Nsimbe left Lugogo training ground for better pay elsewhere.

Securing signatures
Experience being the best teacher, club scouts should avoid repeating mistakes they made last season when recruiting new players. They should sign on players who can help their sides win matches and ensure that the outfit remains within the clubs' bracket; they should as well avoid situations where players go on strikes over non-payment of their dues.

Last season Villa had problems with players some of whom are now finalising with their transfer to new clubs. Chrizestom Ntambi was seen traveling with Express on their tour to Sudan and some people claimed that he might also be in the last stages of his move.
