Some Ugandans are once again warming up for yet another high international meeting - the Second Agribusiness Forum scheduled to take place at the Commonwealth Resort in Munyonyo laterĀ this year. The Agribusiness Forum is an annual meeting launched in South Africa last year with the purpose of boosting trade in African Food Sector with emphasis on design, planning and implementation of agricultural projects.
Agriculture Minister Hope Mwesigye said that the conference, scheduled for October 2010, will run under the theme "Food Security: A Business Opportunity'.
The conference is co-organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and the European-based Market Research Center (EMRC) with financial support from the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Rabobank, United States Aid for International Development (USAID) and Stanbic bank.
The inaugural conference was held in Cape Town - South African from where Kampala Uganda was selected as the host city for the 2010 edition.
The conference is expected to bring together up to 400 delegates from across Africa, Europe, America and Asia, to share their experiences in agribusiness with local players in the industry.
"The tailor made forum will enable delegates to net work one on one and will facilitate cross-continental and intercontinental business introductions and partnerships that will propel the implementation of the collaborative ideas that could be discussed during the forum, " said Mwesigye.
The Commissioner of Agribusiness Ministry of Agriculture Deus Mwezi noted that the country could benefit if local farmers are able to identify partners with whom to invest in the food business.
Uganda is one of the major producers of food in the region and its organically produced food, whose growing demand in affluent western consumers provides opportunities for investments if only the poor farmers can find reliable partners to exploit that potential. blog comments powered by Disqus
