Kampala. On 7th, January 2021 Hadad Mukasa a political activist attached to National Unity Platform reportedly escaped arrest after he was roughed up by security van commonly known as Drone.

It is understood that Mukasa a people power movement youth escaped arrest as he was conducting a rally mobilizing the youths who were reportedly January 2021 polls.

Mukasa a resident of Itendero village in sheema district western Uganda say he was roughed up by unknown men only later to escape. “ I was  rounded up  by gun-men  at our village moblization meeting, two of my counterparts got arrested and I survived in the scuffle,”. He explains

Mukasa whom we contacted through his acquaintances, said that he has been in hiding for almost a month from his home of Itendero as he received information  that unknown individuals were patrolling his home for a couple of days.

This came following complaints from his wife  a one Ninsiima who had raised a red flag following the absence of Mukasa. “ We have been looking for him but we later learnt that even our phones where subject to surveillance that he couldn’t call us back” she adds.

Uganda held presidential and parliamentary elections on January 14. In the months before, armed men in “drones” abducted people from markets, taxi stops, petrol stations, roadsides, and homes.

Hundreds of disappearances have been reported in the press and on social media. President Museveni himself, discussing what he described as “so-called disappearances”, said that the army had arrested more than 300 people.

Most of those taken are young men with links to the National Unity Platform (NUP), the opposition party Bobi Wine leads.
