Jowali Kagwa Kyeyago

Jowali Kagwa Kyeyago (pictured) is Member of Parliament for Bunya South in Mayuge district of Busoga. He is currently the FUFA Vice President in Charge of Administration.

He was formerly the FUFA Vice President in charge of Finance. The Sunrise's Akol-Amazima spoke to him and below are excerpts.

Qn. In the African setting when your relative or tribes man "lands into things" it implies that you will eat big. How has your being in FUFA been of use to the people of Busoga

Ans. I have encouraged Busoga region to be active and participate in all football competitions. I have organized courses for referees and coaches at very subsidized fees in Jinja. These training sessions have helped upcoming referees and team managers from Busoga region.

Qn. You are also the Member of Parliament for Bunya South in Mayuge, is there anything in your constituency to show that you are one of the managers in this country?

Ans. Almost all villages in my constituency play football save for those villages that have no playgrounds. All parishes have received a set of jerseys and balls from me. Primary schools and secondary schools from my constituency have received a helping hand from my office in the field of football.

Qn: Mayuge is known to be struggling in the field of football, what have you done to remedy the situation?

Ans: Together with my FUFA co-delegate Lubanga Musa, we have sponsored first-division clubs from Mayuge including paying the cost of the referees. Every year we work hard to organize football competitions for major days such as Idd, Easter and Christmas cups.

Qn: Your constituents say that you are more interested in FUFA and sports activities than representing them in Parliament. What is your take on this?

Ans: It is not true.  What is true though is that I have worked round the clock to balance the two responsibilities. This is why I was re-elected as the FUFA Vice President

Qn:  There are some Members of Parliament who claim Constituency Development  Fund (CDF) but don't even return to their constituencies until election time like now. Are you one of those?

Ans. I am development-oriented and I have worked hard to improve the welfare of my constituents who are hard working. For example I have supported poultry farming sometimes to the extent of meeting all the costs for over three hundred groups in my constituency.

Qn: You defeated Journalist Joshua Kyalimpa in a bitterly-contested election.  Have you made amends with Kyalimpa and his supporters?

Ans:  I don't have anything personal against Joshua Kyalimpa. In 2006 we all saw that the people of Bunya South decide on whom to represent them. After elections everybody went back to their jobs and as far as I am concerned the people of Bunya South are united and will remain as such.

Qn: Now that Parliamentary elections are around the corner, how set are you to defend your incumbency?

Ans: I haven't seen any challenger though I hear that there are some people coming up. It is a constitutional right of every Ugandan who has the minimum qualifications to stand for any political office if they so wish. I welcome them into the race and it is my wish and prayer that we address issues.

Qn: Mayuge is currently without a legitimate chairman after the court of appeal in Kampala convicted Bakari Tigawalana; what do you say about it?

Ans: I feel touched for my district not having a chairperson at the moment; I appeal to the people of Mayuge to remain calm and select the best leaders who can bring about reconciliation.
