12th December 2009 will ever be remembered by all the local female artistes as the day when Uganda experienced the first music awards dedicated to female artistes only organised by Afrique 1st events.

Diva Music Awards managed to discover hidden talents from various parts of the country following the successful regional tours that began in Mukono, Mbarara, Fort portal, Arua and Mbale respectively.

The public is now required to nominate their favourite via SMS Media which is conducted by Blue Cube. One only needs to type Diva-Artistes Name-Artistes Song and send to 8777.

"The public nomination has started and it will go on up to the end of July," says Kaggwa Kalule, Chairman Diva Music Awards.

 Diva Awards organising committee will then submit the filled nomination forms and SMS database to an independent panel of technical judges who will categorize the music correctly and tally the votes to get the nominees for each category.
On 27th April, the programme including the Diva Awards will be introduced to the artistes in Kampala.

Kalule reveals that countrywide tours will be held starting in May and end in August to popularise the awards amongst the masses with an intention of giving it a national appeal.
At the tours, upcoming artistes in the regions will be given a chance to perform on the same platform with a select group of established artistes preferably from the particular region.

The tours will begin gin in the eastern region (Mbale and Jinja districts) followed by western region (Mbarara and Fort Portal) followed by the northern region (Gulu, Lira and Arua) and finally to south and central.

The 2010 nominees will be grouped in 18 categories which include Diva of the year, New Diva of the year, Afro Beat Diva, Cultural Diva/Group, Gospel Diva, Hip Hop Diva, Band/Folk pop Diva, RnB Diva, Reggae/Raga Diva and Diva video of the year.

Others include Best Divas group, Most promising Diva, Diaspora Diva, Song of the year Diva, New Diva group of the year, Media Diva of the year (Western, Eastern, Northern, South/Central) and Life time achievement Diva.

The Diva of the year will walk away with a cash prize of 5million shillings and all other category winners will be awarded with 1million shillings each at a grand finale event which will be held at the Serena hotel in October.

This time, all the 2010 nominees when announced must contact Diva awards secretariat to confirm their participation and attendance at the awards night. A nominee who unavoidably cannot attend the awards night must officially delegate a representative whose details are submitted to Diva Awards organising committee in a period of 14 days before the awards night.
