Zak: Uganda is governed by thugs but I am glad about it

Share
A few days ago a friend of mine told me a story. I have not yet established its truthfulness but I will narrate it to you and leave it to you to decide on whether to believe it or not.

The story is about an intelligent man that came up with a very brilliant invention.

He came up with a device that would detect and grab thieves. This device became popular and was used in a number of countries to detect and grab thieves. Indeed it was hugely a successful invention in the different countries it was taken to as it detected and helped grab thieves that could never have been grabbed if it had not been for this device.

However, I am told mbu when this device was brought to Uganda, no sooner had it stepped foot on the Ugandan soil than it was stolen by some Ugandan thugs even before it could detect any thief. If there is any truthfulness in this story then that serves to show how high the levels of theft are in this country.

Honestly, I was tempted to believe the story just because I am one of the few fools in this country that believes the Pearl of Africa to be an exceptional country in as far as theft is concerned. In fact sometimes I am tempted to think that this country could do exceptionally well if they were to organise world stealing competitions and it participated.

Uganda is a country that has always been governed by thugs, right from the time it gained independence up to date. So it has the experience in the area of theft. In fact Ugandans these days are right not to mind about being governed by thugs. They are right to be glad about that.

Therefore it is not wrong that some Ugandans are even glad about the fact that thugs in this government have not been as bad as the thugs in the previous governments.
Ugandans should not be blamed for being glad that unlike the thugs in the previous governments that would steal and rob from the wanainchi using guns, the thugs in this government rob from the wanainchi without having to use guns.

This should be so because though the theft in this government is detestable, at least the kind of theft in this government spares lives of Ugandans the threat of physical harm. That is why I am also glad when I hear some Ugandans speak like one Ugandan was speaking on one of the radio talk shows last week.

He said: "We should be glad that unlike the previous governments, though the government in power has had officials robbing from the wanainchi at least this government has not used guns to rob from the wanainchi."

Besides, I am glad that at least now it is no longer hard to prove that the government in power is full of thugs. In fact it could be harder to prove otherwise and I think it would be wiser if the government left Ugandans to call this a government of thugs without having to victimize them for saying that.

For what else can we call the government that has orchestrated the massive theft of in elections in this country (Including last week's NRM elections) or the government that is full of officials that have always been behind the robbery of billions of shillings from the government coffers?

I can swear to you that as long as this government's robbery never degenerates to the levels of using guns to rob from the people and as long as this government never raises against us for truthfully referring to it as a government of thugs it can as well steal as much as it feels like from the country and we shall still be glad about that.

For we know things could be worse if the government were to use guns to steal from Ugandans or if we were to be victimized for honestly referring to this government as one full of thugs.
