Search for Miss Uganda 2010 is on

365 days can mean to be such a long time especially so if you are waiting for an occasion like a beauty pageant.

The search for Miss Uganda 2010 is on, after the excellent success of the previous pageant which was held at the swanky Imperial Royale hotel in Kampala, the same venue for this year's event slated for September 25.

The pageant director Joyce Church promises an excellent event than last year where different issues were raised in the media.

There will be regional launches in different regions of Uganda searching for beauty queens.

"Any Ugandan girl with requisite qualifications is entitled to participate in this competition, and even those from abroad are allowed to come back and contest,"Joyce adds.

Confidence, intelligence and maturity are some of the qualities sought for in this beauty contest. A contestant should be 18-24 years old.

"Auditions give me chance to interview the girls and I know how they are. Last season I had a lot of problems with the girls, more especially in the boot camp, and this season I need girls who're more confident and intelligent," she adds.

Joyce adds that last year's event was unique and exceptional in the history of Uganda's beauty contest, and that that was why many girls even failed to answer questions during the audition sessions.

"Many girls participated just for public recognition but not to be real Miss Uganda.

Infact many of them come with their own purposes like targeting the cash prizes and the trips being announced," she reveals.

Joyce further contends that some girls come with a motive of spying, like happened last year when one of the "contestants" was a journalist who later wrote nasty stories about the whole exercise as an undercover reporter.

"After all that stuff I wanted to take legal action against her but I had more important things to do and I gave up, but people should know that I don't care who wins.

All I need is someone who can represent Uganda on the international level," She says.
The search for Mr. Uganda will be done alongside this event.

The ultimate winner will walk away with 1000 pounds (about Shs 3.5m) in cash plus a fully paid trip to London. She too stands a chance to represent Uganda at the coming Miss World pageant scheduled for October in china.

Last year's contest was scooped by the 21-year-old Maria Namiiro, currently based in Surrey, UK.

She went on to represent Uganda at the Miss World 2009 pageant in South Africa.
