Buganda royal faces revolt over land

More than 100 families in Wakiso district are threatening a revolt against a member of the Buganda royal family accusing her of taking large chunks of their land in what they claim were unfair and dubious deals they were forced to enter into.

Residents of Kata village in Nnangabo Sub County in Wakiso have accused Princess (Nnaalinya) Namutebi Namikka of trickery when she made hundreds of bibanja tenants sitting on her one square mile piece of land to surrender part of it in exchange for land titles.
 
 

Youth told to join army to defend Uganda

In the wake of the bomb blasts that rocked Kampala on July 11, police Chief Major General Kale Kayihura has called on the country's youth to join security forces to be able to defend themselves against lawless characters like the suicide bombers.

The July 11 bombings which were masterminded by Somali militants of al-shabaab left at least 76 people dead and 94 injured with an additional 37 still bed ridden.
 

Ten experts fly in to operate bomb survivors

A group of 10 medical and technical experts from Kenya arrived in Uganda to carry out complicated surgeries and other delicate operations on patients who sustained severe injuries during the July 11 bombing in Kampala.

Health Minister Dr. Steven Malinga, who received the delegation of doctors at Mulago said Uganda needed their expertise since they had prior experience of treating bomb survivors when they participated in a similar exercise after the 1998 terrorist attack on the US Embassy in Nairobi.
 

Kuteesa wants taxes refund on Global fund deal

Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Kuteesa is either a very patriotic Ugandan or he is filthy rich. This is after it emerged that the minister has in the past used his own money to pay government taxes.

Kuteesa says he used his Ushs151m in 2007, to pay taxes for the Ministry of Health. And now almost three years down the road, the ministry is still struggling to make a refund.
