Fair Pen Uganda in conjunction with the National Association of Sharing Schools Uganda (NASSU) have organized an Inter-Schools Cultural Festival and Newsletter writing competition to take place from September 18 to 19 in Kampala.
Scheduled to be held at Lubiri senior secondary school in Kampala, the festival will culminate into a grand finale and awards ceremony on Sunday 19, in which the best schools will receive a range of prizes including trophies.
Mr. Fred Obala, secretary of Fair Pen says: "Students and pupils from various regions of Uganda will come together to exchange experiences about each others' cultural background through Music, Dance and Drama."
Apart from the cultural festival, schools which are participating in the Fair Pen Newsletter writing competition will exhibit their products.
The Newsletter is the main tool used in these schools to empower children to learn to form own opinions, teamwork, leadership skills, reading and writing skills. It is hoped that through practical activities, the children will develop into a responsible citizens of Uganda.
Organized under the theme; "Domestic Violence. Causes and Effects on School-Going Children," it is hoped that the festival will bring the youth to talk about the dangers of domestic violence and how it affects them in their day to day lives and studies.
"At the end of the day, students will have one voice and advise stakeholders to stop domestic violence," adds Mr. Obala.
Up to 11 secondary and 9 primary schools are expected to take part in the first annual cultural festival and newsletter writing competition. The Dutch Ambassador to Uganda His Excellence Jeroen Verheul is expected to officiate the grand finale and awards ceremony. blog comments powered by Disqus
