Three netted for poisoning elephant in Karuma gave reserve

Three men from Kiryandongo district are facing charges of allegedly poisoning an elephant in Karuma game reserve three weeks ago.

The three identified as Nicholas Ayoma,      Stephen Alyon and Abibu Kazomi were netted in an operation mounted by the police, Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) guards as well as officials from the Natural Resource Conservation Network (NRCN).

Laban Muhindo,   the spokesperson for NRCN says that his organisation was tipped off by a whistle blower who revealed a secret plan by the three suspects to trade in ivory weighing 45kg.

Muhindo says they acted swiftly on the tip off and on March 2, they rounded up the three men with 45kgs of ivory from a mature elephant.
