Former minister Daudi Migereko

Residents of Jinja district have received the new cabinet announced by the president with sentiments and criticism over its composition

Residents and leaders in Jinja are surprised that for the first time in the history of President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership, housing and urban development Daudi Mpabulungi Migereko.

Majid Dhikusooka, the NRM vice chairman for Jinja district ran short of words while congratulating the newly appointed ministers when he noted that Jinja was sidelined in the new cabinet yet it is the heart of Busoga.

“I would like to thank His Excellency for appointing our sons Kirunda Kivejinja, Esther Mbayo, Henry Aggrey Bagiire Moses Kizige, Isaac Musumba and Frederick Ngobi Gume but am disappointed that Jinja district the city of Busoga has no minister for the first time when Museveni is in charge, yiiiiii my president” Dhikusooka noted.

Asked whether he anticipated that anyone from Jinja would assume a ministerial post, the NRM district chairman was quick to respond that all the legislators they sent to parliament can ably serve in cabinet.

“Remember my current district chairman Igeme Nabeta, the MP for Jinja Municipality East is a former minister and a hardworking man just like my former district NRM chairman and MP for Jinja Municipality West constituency Moses Grace Balyeku is a good leader and mobilizer. Remember the only senior and experienced minister we had Daudi Migereko was also dropped” Dhikusooka added.

Eve Nalongo Kwesiga, a resident of Nile Avenue in Jinja town and NRM mobilizer, says the president would have at least picked a non politician from Jinja or maintained Migereko because of his vast experience and dedication to national duties.

She says that if surely Jinja is becoming a city in the shortest time possible and being the former industrial hub for East Africa, the minister for trade and industries would have come from Jinja.

Jinja district has five legislators and some of them especially Moses Grace Balyeku and Nathan Igeme Nabeta are said to have had high hopes of making it to Museveni’s new cabinet.

However, Meddy Mbetyo, an FDC stalwart and district  councilor representing Jinja central division on Jinja district council is not surprised that Jinja did not scoop any post because of internal squabbles within  the NRM party leaders.

“Unless there was a post of sabotage, propaganda, malice and vote rigging for leaders from Jinja to take, sort of that Mr Museveni for the first time used his wisdom well to sideline them. I am not NRM but

I congratulate those who were appointed though I know they will remain stooges” Mbentyo said.
