A Police constable shot and killed a 25 years-old man of Jupangeni village last week after the residents turned rowdy protesting the drilling of water in their village.
This prompted the Member of Parliament for Padyere County, to ask for the temporary withholding of the project of drilling water in Erussi sub-county in order for the traditional and religious leaders to sensitize the locals on the benefits of the project.
The Central Government disbursed over 60 million shillings to Nebbi District to drill a gravity water flow scheme in Erussi to help solve water shortages. The District Water Officer, Andrew Jenaro, said the water source in Jupangeni village was ideal for drilling for water, but the residents had rejected it, claiming it would lower the existing water level.
In another development, the district has diverted the use of an Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the Pakwach Health Center IV to host the offices of the new district administration. This is at the Kapita Hill which is to become the district headquarters from next July.
The Secretary Finance, Jimmy Operi, Oyungrwoth, said that, the District Committee decided this instead of renting an office elsewhere. He said that since 2012 the OPD block has remained unused as a “white elephant”.
Also, in another issue concerning office space, the District Speaker “operates from the street without proper office. The Parombo sub-county councilor, Focus Warom, said, it was improper for the speaker to operate from the street and other office corridors of White House without proper office.
The speaker’s office has been allocated to SAGE, a government program that supports the elderly. through provision of monthly salary.
