Police are still holding Mityana municipality MP Francis Zaake Butebi at Kiruddu hospital because he has allegedly refused to comply with its order to be examined by a team of government doctors.

Police spokesperson Emillian Kayima has confirmed to The Sunrise that MP Zaake has not yet complied with the Police requirement hence the reason he has not yet been allowed to travel to India for specialised treatment.

Kayima was responding to a question as to why Zaake was still being held even after the government had reportedly given the two tortured MPs the green light to travel abroad for specialised treatment.

“He (Zaake) is not cooperating with the Police to be examined. But we are making progress and we shall issue a statement. Even when he refuses to cooperate , we shall say so,” said Kayima.

Zaake’s fellow MP Allan Ssewanyana and also area MP for Makindye East where Kiruddu hospital is located, confirmed to The Sunrise that Police were still holding onto the Mityana municipality MP. Before being forcefully taken to Kiruddu, doctors at Lubaga had warned that his health was deteriorating quickly and that he needed urgent specialised treatment if he is to stay alive or avoid permanent dissability.

MP Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine left for the United States last evening after, according to Kayima, he accepted to be examined.

MP Zaake is considered to be in worse condition because he cannot walk or sit after security agents beat him to near death during the Arua by-election violence.Lubaga doctors said he has intense pain along the spinal code and sometimes blacks out.

Kamapala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago described the atmosphere at Kiruddu as a hospital-turned illegal detention facility with ‘mean-looking security operatives’

By the time of posting this article at around 16:30, Lawyer Nicholas Opio, a renowned human rifhts lawyer confirmed to this reporter that he was in a meeting with government officials to try to resolve the stand off about MP Zaake’s health crisis.

On Thursday this week, Zaake was stopped at Entebbe International Airport from travelling to India by security agencies. He was arrested and forcefully taken to Kiruddu hospital. His Passport and boarding pass were confiscated
