Robbers attack Nabweru Court; steal UGX 48m and documents

Robbers last night attacked the Nabweru Chief Magistrate’s Court in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district, and made off with UGX 48m and important court documents.

The court handles a number of case files including those of Nansana women murders and the Lusanja land saga.

Sources have revealed that the attackers overpowered the guard, tied him up and thereafter accessed the Chief Magistrate’s office, the cash office and the registry.

Kampala metropolitan police spokes person Luke Oweyesigire confirmed that there was only one security guard on duty at the time of the attack and he is under police custody to help with investigations.

At around 9:20am today, the prison bus arrived with prisoners only to be sent back by police officers who were already at the scene of crime. Among the affected persons were lawyers and clients who had come for court hearings.

The Judiciary’s Senior Communications Officer Solomon Muyita said he was surprised there was only one guard yet the Uganda Police Force was expected to deploy more than one.

“I still wonder why it was only one guard on duty. Let’s wait for the police investigation report may be we shall get to know why,” Muyita said.
