The Annual Media Conference and Exhibition (AMC&E) takes place next week in Lira town, northern Uganda, with over 200 participants expected.

Journalists representing media houses from across the country will be joined by government officials, the business community and civil society to discuss the role of the media in development. The main focus is on northern and eastern Uganda.

The event will be held between October 16 and 18, 2019, at All Saints University Lango (ASUL). The opening ceremony will be preside over by Grace Kwiyucwiny, Minister of State for Northern Uganda.

This is the second AMC&E. The first was held in 2016 at Lira District Council Hall. The theme of this year’s event is: “Roles of Media, Stakeholders in Development and Prosperity.

The conference is being organized by the The Northern Daily (TND News) in partnership with Great Lakes Centre for Strategic Media Studies (GLCSMS).

The chief organizer, Milton Akwam, said: “The conference shall aim at discussing key challenges that are faced by journalists while executing their work. This conference is timely as Uganda draws nearer to 2021 polls. At such a time, journalists and media houses face tense threats and intimidations, or even kidnaps.”

The conference will among others discuss Media and Society, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

The conference is supported by the Uganda Science Journalists Association (USJA), The Sunrise, STV Uganda, UBC, Teso-Karamoja Media Agency (TEKAMA), The Edwin Foundation Initiative Limited (EFOTI), Alur Royal Tea, Zombo Tea and several media houses in northern Uganda.
