Radio journalist killed in Kampala bomb attack

Stephen Tinka, a journalist who was has been working with Uganda’s Vision Voice radio station is died in hospital yesterday as a result of last Sunday night’s bomb attacks at Lugogo in Kampala.

Tinka was commentating the World Cup football match between Spain and the Netherlands to a crowd gathered at the rugby grounds.

The Eastern Africa Journalists Association condemned the attack that were carried out by Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia.

The journalist used to present a night programme between the shift and was up to this morning presenting a Saturday morning magazine show died in the morning of July 12, after spending the night in a critical condition.

“We cannot condone this senseless waste of human life, more so the life of a journalist who had nothing else to do at the event other than relaying the information to the people. Those behind this heinous act have distinguished themselves as the worst enemies of media freedom. We condemn their acts in the strongest terms possible,” said Tervil Okoko, EAJA regional media freedom and advocacy coordinator.

EAJA also calls upon the international community, including the countries neighbouring Somalia, to take immediate action to stem the seemingly growing tide of the Al-Shabaab in the region.
