Muteesa’s widow dead

Buganda Katikkiro Eng J.B. Walusimbi has announced the death of Lady Damalie Nakawombe Kisosonkole, the widow to the late Sir Edward Muteesa II. Sir Edward Muteesa II is the father of the reigning King of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
 
According to a statement issued by Mengo, Lady Damalie, as she was popularly known, passed away on Monday morning at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.

“Katikkiro on behalf of the people of Buganda extends condolences to the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and the Royal family for the loss of their parent,” the statement noted.

The Kingdom has set up a committee led by Ambassador W.S.K Matovu to oversee all preparations for the burial ceremony. The Committee also includes Buganda ministers Eva Nagawa Mukasa, Nelson Kawalya, Samalie Mwanje, officials including John Kitenda and Douglas Nelson Ssenyonjo of the royal treasury.

The burial programme is yet to be released.
 
Lady Damalie Nakawombe Kisosonkole was born to the late Christopher Ssenkuuma Kisosonkole and Nassozi in 1929.

She went to Buddo Junior School, Kings College Buddo and later joined Shabon College in Great Britain as the first African to this college.

She got married to the late Sir Edward Muteesa II in 1948 at Namirembe Cathedral where they were joined in marriage by Bishop C. Stewart. They later hosted their guests at a lavish reception outside Mengo palace.

She is survived by two children including Princess Dorothy Nassolo who works as an under secretary in the ministry of health and Prince Henry Katabazi Kalemera who lives in the United States of America.
