Sugar vendor jailed two years for reducing tumpeko

BUSOGA:

A magistrate's court in Kaliro district this week sentenced an 18-year old man to two years in prison for selling underweight goods to unsuspecting members of the public.

Prosecution led by Angella Bakibinga assured court presided over by Grade one magistrate Sylvia Nvanungi that the defendants Shaffik Magoola and colleague Nasser Bogere, 22, both residents of Iganga town council were engaged in cheating the public by using false measurements.

This was after the duo were arrested by police on March 26, 2012 following a dispute between them and their client one Julius Datemwa.
 

EALA members face tough re-election battles

Nyagak Launch pushed again

Frank Berger, the Regional Manager for Wenreco, the company that was contracted to build the dam, told journalists on a media tour that the hardest part of the project is concrete, which has been completed and approved.
 

Another officer kills lover

Nakapiripirit town council became a scene of horror last week when a Local Defense Unit officer identified as Auda Paul pulled the trigger and killed two women, one of them his girlfriend over a quarrel.

According to Captain Deo Akiiki, the public relations officer for the 3rd Division of the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF), Auda shot and killed his girlfriend Nakut Santina after a domestic row.

 

Thief falls in 30ft pit

Police in Jinja have retrieved a 21year old man from a 30 feet pit where he fell as he tried to flee from a botched theft mission in Nakanyonyi zone, Bugembe Town Council.

Katerega Moses a resident of Kagugube zone in Makerere, Kampala had together with a comrade in crime identified as Junior Richard Kabi still at large camped in the area earlier in the day with the aim of stealing electrical appliances from unsuspecting residents.
