Ugandans win CNN Multichoice Journalism awards
It was another week of jubilation especially here at The Sunrise when Former Sunrise Scribe turned NTV presenter, Leone Ssenyange won the coveted CNN Multichoice Sports Award as Halima Abdallah Kisule of The East African news paper took home the CNN Multichoice Environment Award.
Ssenyange's winning story aired on NTV's Sports Bar last December, about a Naguru-based blind boxer, Bashir Ramadhan, who had gone against the odds to earn from boxing while Kisule's story which appeared in The East African in May last year, told of how the Crested Crane could become extinct at the hands of human brutality and the poor habitat.
The poll also predicted a run-off between Museveni and his nemesis Besigye as the 43 per cent share of the vote would not be sufficient to crown Museveni in the first round of voting.
According to the constitution, a presidential candidate must win more than 50 per cent of the valid votes cast at the election.
The UN chief said the criticism that the court targeted African nations was unfair and inaccurate, saying although cases were referred by African governments, there were exceptions like Darfur and Kenya.
Government retracts on NWSC privatization
National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) which was initially among the public enterprises that were to be privatised, was declared not for sale by leader of government business Apolo Nsibambi while launching "Making Public Enterprises work", a book written by NWSC MD, Dr. William Muhairwe.
Top government officials argued that NWSC had under the leadership of Muhairwe transformed from a loss-making to a surplus-profit-making enterprise.
"The various African liberation struggles, which Nyerere supported, proves that his principles positively affected Tanzania and the African continent" this, Museveni said during special prayers at the Catholic Martyrs' Shrine at Namugongo, for the beautification of the late Mwalimu Nyerere. blog comments powered by Disqus
