Conmen on the loose!

Share
Early last week, I received a phone call from a one "Eng. Patrick" who wanted to offer me a deal. When I enquired about his identity, he wondered at how I could forget him so easily, to the point of even not recognizing his voice.

I feigned knowledge of him and he told me of how he had previously worked with National Water and later moved to work in France for two years. He continued that he is now with Tullow Oil. He seemed to know me well, and I wondered at how he acquired my phone number.

What's Museveni doing with sleepy ministers?!

News of snoring ministers and MPs has dominated newspaper headlines. They always sleep when the President is making his speech.

First it was during the President's state-of-the-nation address when more than half of the ministers dozed off when Mzee was making his lengthy speech. Then followed the post-budget speech.

And recently it was reported that there was dozing at Namboole during the NRM National Conference when again the President, the NRM Chairman, delivered his long speech.

Gender equality isn't for equality

The gender movement today, or, simply put, the women rights movement has become such a sensitive and lucrative industry, with many female opportunists positioning themselves for a big kill.

It's no doubt that there are women who have built magnificent mansions, accumulated all the money they wanted, and reached the pinnacle of their lives-courtesy of feminism. Feminism is such a big issue today; an issue which is meant to benefit all the female gender.

Women are always demanding for equality in a male dominated world, and their efforts have paid off. There are more women in the world of politics, business, the corporate world, and many are climbing the social strata.

World Cup is Africa's biggest opportunity

That the World Cup is in Africa this time round is perhaps the greatest thing that has happened to Africa.

Nelson Mandela has done us proud, though he wasn't around to witness the opening match on 11 June as his great granddaughter had passed on. Mandela lobbied for South Africa to host the prestigious tournament four years ago and Fifa granted the old man his wish- in appreciation of his struggle against racism and inequality.

The World Cup brings enormous fortunes to Africa. It shows that the way Africa is portrayed to the West has changed. Hitherto, Africa was considered a "dark continent" with people who looked like apes, having tails.
