LCs more important than MPs

Share

One can't understand why the LC system was halted and yet the LCs were doing a commendable job. Some people who thought that the LC system was a Movement machinery fought relentless battles in courts of law to ensure that we had no more LCs. But that said, the LCs are more important than any other government official because they maintain a clear record of all their subjects, and are quick to arbitrate village cases.

The LCs are better mobilisers of people. If you wanted anything to be implemented, you would just go through the LCs as they alone know where to find their people. The LCs are better enforcers of security in their areas of jurisdiction.

Compare LCs to MPs. The MPs, by their job description, are confined to the comforts of their chambers in parliament without giving the slightest hoot as to the well-being of their constituents. An MP is preoccupied with winning the next election and he doesn't give a hoot as to whether his people die or live. To an MP, people are just there to be used in their match to parliament and subsequent ministerial appointments.

Inspite of such a noble role played by LCs in our society, government has enacted a policy that will see them receive only Ushs. 120,000 a year for the job well-done. Government argues that this money is not payment but a token of appreciation for their good work. I think the people who should be paid more are actually the LCs because they are more useful than the so-called MPs.

You mean Bazungu are that bad?!

I couldn't hold my breath when I saw naked Bazungu in The Sunrise. The photo depicted Bazungu celebrating a nudity festival in the Sunrise of a fortnight ago. Men and women alike congregated to display the various features on their bodies including the different sizes and shapes of their private parts.

We had all along held the Bazungu in high esteem, but the way they have chosen to live has forced me to hold them in very low opinion. I totally despise the bazungu. I would denounce my son or daughter if they chose to marry a mzungu since they have proved to be uncivilized.

It was Wrong not to alert people on terror threat

The Sate Minister for Security, Matia Kasaija, has come out to say that they knew of the terror threats but they didn't want to alert people as this would trigger panic and anxiety among the people. It was wrong on the part of government to have concealed this information from its citizens because had they divulged what was afoot by the terrorist, people would have taken extra caution. It means some people who died would have survived if they had been alerted of an imminent suicide bomb.

We shouldn't withdraw from Somalia

Following the bomb attacks recently, various voices have called for the withdrawal of our troops from Somalia, so as to pre-empt further terrorist attacks on our country.

Some of us are not yet convinced that if we caved in to al-shabaab's demands as to pull out of Somalia, they would behave and halt their attacks on us. These people are terrorists and there is nothing that would make them change their mind if they are hell-bent on executing their horrendous plans.

Instead of us chickening out, we should reinforce and I am happy with government's decision to send an extra 20,000 troops to supplement the 3,000 already there. If for once we displayed our true colours, these monsters will fear us and think twice before attacking us once again. We must follow them to their hide-outs and crash them and leave them there.
