Panado is known for treating headaches or to reduce and kill pain in the body. But in the newly created Iganga municipality where over twenty candidates have expressed interest to represent the area in Parliament.
Talk about Panado, gets into a political discussion because it is the nick name of one of the candidates - Peter Mugema.
The soft-spoken and bespectacled Mugema says that the name Panado originates from the fact that like many other graduates do, he did not roam streets of Kampala looking for jobs.
But rather used skills as a development studies graduate to start a drug-shop among other community development projects activities.
Since time immemorial, Iganga has had her own challenges ranging of leadership wrangles that divided the people into two bitterly opposing factions.
One that supports Internal Affairs Minister Hajj Kirunda Kivejinja and the other supporting former Vice President Dr. Wandira Kazibwe.
Mugema however argues that apart from dividing people, the faction politics has run its course and that now is the time to unite the people for development.
He argues that the fact that he has not been party to any of the major factions, puts him in a better position to unify the people for development.
Mugema claims that unlike his competitors who are viewed self-seekers and Kampala-based, Mugema was born, raised and went to school in Iganga municipality.
He is an old boy of Iganga Urban School, Bukoyo SSS, Caltec Academy in Kampala. He went to Makerere University where he obtained a degree in development studies.
Mugema, a Movement cadre says he's seeking election on the NRM ticket just like many people in Busoga are willing to vote NRM because of the party's proven contribution to the constituency including transforming it into a municipality. blog comments powered by Disqus
