Help develop talent; not to reward it, Mr. Museveni

Share
Good and hard work though does not pay instantly, will always pay with time. We therefore must work to the best of our abilities.
And therefore we must identify, support and help talent grow and develop it at its infancy.

Uganda Football Cranes have been rewarded abundantly by the President Museveni Yoweri. But he is rewarding the team for the good results from the talent crops he didn't help develop.

Well, it's not any other reward but a big bus handed over to FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa at National Council of Sports headquarters in Lugogo Tuesday this week.
In my opinion, Museveni only associates with good performances. Yes, that should be the way to go but how about helping that talent at its infancy?

Giving Cranes or any other sport a reward after a good performance is but to me admitting guilt that you did not do enough when it mattered.
Well, all the same I am happy that when you promise sports you always fulfill. Indeed the 57- seater estimated at shs319m will ease the national team's transport in the East African region.

I will still request that, as President, you identify with our local sports for more good results and help develop the sports field.
In Museveni's company was Education and Sports Minister Namirembe Bitamazire. Her words carried meaning when she directed that schools must sports as an independent subject.

This can only be actualised when government commits good sums of money to fund the project.

However, government should take up sports in good and bad times. There is a vast wealth of talent to harvest from youngsters- with state funding.
Giving the cranes a bus after the Cecafa victory leaves a lot to be desired.  Through thin and thick, Cranes won the regional trophy. Now the 2012 qualifier are here, where is the state?

Inzukuru's triumphant return from Helinsiki four years ago with gold earned her a state dinner with the President. Before leaving the country to later win that gold, no government official wanted to associate with her.

Several other athletes have had to excel at international scenes without government support.
Question: are we supposed to identify talent and develop it or do the opposite, Mr. President?
I opine that talent must be helped to develop so it rewards itself…!
