My black brothers; where is World Cup?

Share
Once in his life time, great man Robert Collier said, "There is nothing on earth you can not have -once you have mentally accepted the fact that you can have it," At it, I set out to the earth myself going by this saying and have almost lived this saying as my guide to excellence. Praising such a brain like Collier's, then comes the 2010 Africa hosted World footballing show.

Thinking the great saying could work for Africa; making an all historical event from its organizing and hosting to a better than ever performance and lifting the biggest prize of the World soccer planet, I now believe I ought to have been wiser.

It's until now that I have come to start thinking differently about the saying that has guided me througout my life.

First, I thought South Africa (hosts) have the potential. Their performances at group games were not anything to write home about.

On the second thought, I put my weight behind an Algerian bet instead. Theirs is but not enough either. Or yes, Cameroon and Ivory Coast had given fans a lot of hope even before the show. But that Samuel Eto'o or Didier Drogba crazy still lacked. Ghana could as well be a better bet but still disappointed many.

It was very easy ruling out Nigeria on the bet card for one simple history that they once- not so long ago fell to Uganda Cranes 2-0 shortly after a controversial result in their own back-yard-Abeakuta denying the Obua's and Sekagya's a deserving away draw.

Also they have proved lacking in most departments in the fields despite the fact that they have good players and lots of experience.

Well, I wished mentally that at least two or one African representatives could power Africa to the round of sixteen, and maybe then of eight or semi-finals. Many people still urge that African countries have along way before an African country can be seen as a finalist or lifting the trophy.

Then, scrolling through my memoir of guiding quotes; one Mark Twain put me in a place I ought to have been when placing my bet on Africa. He said, "Its better to deserve honors and do not have them than have them and you do not deserve them,"

With placing bets on Africa, I was giving honors to Africans who do not deserve them.
I had two thought.

Either because Africans and particularly South Africa are hosts there will be a little better fixture or pool that favors at least an African team (something that was an oversight),or that the referees could do it for the black race. Never..!. That could mean having what they do not deserve.

My brothers the Africans have not done enough to convince even partisan fans in South Africa that they deserve something victories at world Cup.

Now I know only believing in certain quotes is not enough to deserve honors and accolades, its sad that despite being the hosts we seem to have gotten out of the games empty handed, save for the reputation of hosting a great tournament!
