Keeping tennis dream alive may not be easy…!

Mugabe ends a- 14-year wait for Uganda open victory. "So what?" reacted my girl-friend after reading about that long- awaited victory in the local publications.

Little did I know that she knew Mugabe Duncan as a sole Tennis player on whom the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association (ULTA) is banking on at both international and local scenes.

"He's a single army and it's just a one off victory. We are bound to lose not so long time from now," she noted giving examples that I nodded to.

For once as a boyfriend, I had started to think that with that single quote, my fiancé had started learning to cope in a relationship where our daily schedule starts with disagreements and ends the same way.

Just this point in time, I had a second thought that, maybe, I have been against her decisions though I can not confess to her.

The Uganda Lawn Tennis fraternity is celebrating the Uganda Open win. But like she put it, it's only going to be short-lived and the foreigners are not going to rest their case.

Absolutely, they are aware that Uganda's tennis thrives on the stardom of this one Mugabe. The same Mugabe is very self destructing. He is nervous and some time succumbs to pressure on the court. This all comes at moments when he is trailing or terribly faulting on his serves.
For sure, one thing Ugandans, including yours truly, should do is congratulate Mugabe on his wonders. He has done us proud this year at the Nile Gold tennis tournament. Preparing for more victories must be ULTA's biggest agenda.

Off the ice, a crushing reality remains: the unexpected death of local tennis has been due to poor game development and packaging.

The country has suffered a massive heart attack upon numerous losses on courts both at home and away, and arriving at a persistent winning moment would require numbers but not expertise, though common sense may guide you to have some expert of a Mugabe caliber to do the job.

It is high time we produced champions of all time. We must dedicate ourselves to seasoning good seeds, besides, repackaging the game. And most importantly, we should show cause for sponsorship by a good and accountable game's organisation.
If you wanted to witnesses a testimony of inner strength overcoming the worst of circumstances, just get bonded with Mugabe.

You must be aware that Mugabe has extended his magic across the region of East Africa, but not all outings have been victorious. Last weekend, he took both the men's singles and the doubles coupling with Robert Buyinza.

His easing to a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets, won the title that had eluded locals since 1997.
But still common sense must be applied to our losses.

Many a time, we have been responsible for our losses by failing to have the losses at Uganda Open have a local calendar of activities to help fine-tune our boys.
The governing body only invests in Mugabe as if there are no other young and already known talents.

The game was at its low for almost a decade, no wonder foreigners had dominated the event.

The loss of anything of value would send even the strongest into a shell of mourning. For the many times local tennis has lost, I did not know that my girlfriend would make a point some day.

That time came when tennis had some victory to write about home, though she still remains unsatisfied with a single victory.
