Since 2008, the two former national rally champions, Ponsiano Lwakataka and Ronald Sebuguzi, had never competed in the same meet until Sunday May 30 when they appeared at Festino cite in Mukono district.
The circuit started with a motorbike race won by national captain, Arthur Blick. The car race was next featuring over 20 drivers including Susan Muwonge, Rose Lwakataka, Jass Mangert, Ronald Sebuguzi, Duncan Mubiru.
However, it was Sebuguzi and Lwakataka who drove the crowd wild. The two are ranked as the best rally drivers in the country and are this season's NRC title contenders.
The first round of the rally left many hanging questions as Lwakataka's N8 won but Sebuguzi in his Evo9 got lost en route.
This scenario compounded tension among the fans and the competing drivers themselves making the second round more competitive.
The results of the second round were not so different from those of the first Lwakataka again proved he is the country's rally king.
Talking to The Sunrise, Lwakataka said that for a long time, he has been waiting for a time to show that is the king. "I've been waiting for this. Ronald has been racing against Ssemujju who is inexperienced," he noted.
He added that during the Pearl of Africa rally, his car developed a mechanical problem in the first section of the second day which greatly affected his performance. He promised that he is ready to challenge Jamie Whyte in the Rwanda rally due this weekend. blog comments powered by Disqus
