Top Musicians to Watch in 2017

Among the lessons learned by the Ugandan artistes in 2016, is that a career is not cemented in one night, with one breakout show, or with one collector’s token of approval.

Looking ahead to 2017, The Sunrise consulted fans, producers and other stakeholders to determine who among the many artistes deserve greater attention in the New Year. This is for those particularly well-positioned to rise to new heights.

Ceaserous

This is another young artiste doing incredible work. He has exhibited a different and unique touch for the dancehall genre this year. “Dangerous”, is the biggest club banger at the moment, yet it underlines his harmlessness as a person.

He is the best musical thing that has happened in Uganda’s Hip Hop musical world. I can confirm that he is the fastest rapper in hip hop music now. His new single “Kalabuka” is far better than hundreds of hip hop songs ever made in Uganda.

Ziza Bafana

Ziza Bafana, alias, Richard Kasendwa, has always proved doubters wrong with the famous musical flow, Luga-Ragga, that saw him release songs like: “Pomini-Pomini” , “Guluma Na’ somye” , “Tuli Magye”, among others. Besides his musical prowess, critics have argued that Ziza Bafana should really work on his public relations so as to hype his brand, otherwise pundits can confirm that Bafana will be a big thing in 2017.

Nina Rose

Her rise explains the hard work inside Jeff Kiwa’s TNS (Team No Sleep). Earlier, musical critics had tipped Roden Y of Kabako Fame as the next star after Sheebah, but Nina only needs to be marketed; and the rest will be history. This gorgeous woman has a rare attitude which will be loved by many. Her popular song is,  “Mekete”, that features Rodney Y.

Sheebah Karungi

Sheebah Karungi has been the best in 2016 with record-breaking Hotel Africana crowds; it is too early to think that she is exhausted, yet. The “Nkwatako” singer is seemingly striking at the Uganda’s musical top four with more hits like, “Farmer”, among others.

Raba Daba

When someone says the name Raba Daba, the first thing that comes to mind is the deafening screams that you hear when the DJ dropped, “Bwekiri”, and everyone on the dance-floor. The singer recently got a new management under top city MC and Musical critic, Mc Kats, who is the brain behind of singer Fille Mutoni.

So far, Raba Daba has released new singles that includes, “Body”, whose video is currently being shot. If the song is given the kind of massive promotion it deserves, it will definitely go down as one of the biggest songs in Uganda in 2017.
