Acting deputy Chief Justice, seeking a temporarily injunction on the approval of new appointments of key NRM officials pending disposal of the main application which wants court to announce as illegal amendments to the party’s constitution, which gave President Museveni powers to appoint top party officials including the secretary general, treasurer and their deputies.
The application also seeks to announce as illegal the recent NRM Parliamentary Caucus decision taken in Kyankwanzi which ring-fenced Museveni as the party’s sole presidential candidate.
President Museveni recently nominated Justine Kasule Lumumba, the NRM Chief Whip as the new NRM secretary general replacing Amama Mbabazi and Richard Todwong as her deputy.
He also nominated Rosemary Namayanja, the minister of Information and National Guidance as the party’s treasurer replacing Amelia Kyambadde, the minister of Trade.
Interestingly, the NRM Central Executive Committee is also expected to meet today to approve the recently nominated office bearers.
