Ex-EC boss Aziz Kasujja succumbs to heart failure

RIP: Hajj Aziz Kasujja

RIP: Hajj Aziz Kasujja

The former chairman of the Electoral Commission Hajj Aziz Kasujja has succumbed to heart failure, The Sunrise has learned.

Reliable sources say that Hajj Kasujja died Sunday afternoon as he was being rushed to Platinum hospital in Wandegeya, Kampala from Kawempe area where he was chairing a school meeting.

Kasujja, whose last national posting was Uganda’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, has been in and out of hospital battling hypertension and heart problems.

In 2012, Aziz Kasujja was admitted at Mulago’s Heart Institute after receiving a heart attack. He was even put in the intensive care unit.

Although he died in a humble health facility, Kasujja has been to some of the best hospitals in London, United Kingdom.

Kasujja’s death will probably be rude reminder to many Ugandans about the growing danger of non-communicable diseases such as heart failure, hypertension or high blood pressure, cancer and diabetes.

Kasujja served as chairman of the Electoral Commission chairman for two five-year terms that ended in 2002.
