All is set for Luuka district to host this year’s national independence cerebrations at the district headquarters on October 9th.

Luuka district resident commissioner Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo says preparations are in high gear to ensure that the venue is befitting for such a national event that will be presided over by the president in the company of other visiting heads of states and dignitaries.

Mr Nsubuga who was recently transferred from Zombo district says Kiyunga saza ground has now been fully cleared by slashing the bushes and removing logs and tree stamps a head of the 54th independence anniversary of Uganda.

According to Mr Bewayo, the Ministry of Presidency has joined hands with the local leadership of Luuka to ensure good preparations and coordination.

“We held a meeting last week at Kiyunga district headquarters chaired by the minister of Presidency, Deborah Katuramu, the district chairperson, some local councilors, and the entire protocol chiefs in Busoga sub region over the same issue” he said.

He says the meeting dwelled more on organizing the ground, identifying local mobilizers and support groups to mobilize the population irrespective of their party affiliations to attend the event.

Luuka district chairperson Abubaker Luwangula says his council is closely monitoring the preparations to ensure they all share the happiness and appreciation for the good function.

Like our woman member of parliament and minister for independence Mbayo said in our first meeting that “this year’s celebration in Luuka is going to be the most special, colorful and memorable event ever, ‘unforgettable’ one, it is a collective effort of all concern parties to achieve it” he noted.

This year’s independence event will be celebrated under the theme: “Protection of our Independence through Promotion of Patriotism, Unity and Hard Work”.

To the people of Luuka, this year’s celebrations being held in their district is accredited to the lobbying of the minister for presidency to market the once unknown district. Luuka was carved from Iganga district in 2010.
