Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who was today among a team of three people that were allowed to visit Kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine in Makindye military barracks where he was taken following a court martial appearance in Gulu yesterday, has described the Politician’s situation as one that ‘brought everyone to tears.’
Lukwago was allowed to visit Bobi Wine along with the Chairman of the Uganda Human Rights Commission Hajj Meddie Kaggwa and Makindye Division Mayor Nganda Mulyannyama.
Lukwago described Bobi’s situation simply as terrible. “He’s in a very very bad shape. You can’t help shed tears.” He added: “Everybody was speechless. Right now, you cannot tell what is going to happen [to him] because he cannot support himself. He is being carried by the soldiers. Even for personal management, he has to be supported.”
Lukwago said, Bobi Wine told them that he was injected with things he didn’t know by one of the soldiers.
When the soldiers were asked by Lukwago and team if they had carried out thorough medical examination, the soldiers reportedly said they don’t have equipment and that they are frantically looking for options elsewhere, possibly to a hospital to see if they can get treatment and some medical examination.
According to Lukwago, Bobi Wine’s doctor was prevented from accessing him at Makindye military barracks.
Lukwago also revealed that Bobi Wine painstakingly tried to narrate events that followed his arrest. Lukwago narrated that Bobi Wine told him that he was attacked by a gang of men who broke into his room and started beating him from all directions. “At one point, he passed out,” added Lukwago.
Zaake on life support
Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake, was reportedly dumped at Rubaga hospital early today with injuries all over his body. Pictures obtained by people who attended to him show that he was severely beaten.
The hospital put him on life support, a sign, according to Leader of Opposition in Parliament Betty Aol Ochan that he could die if removed from the machines.
“His condition is very bad. The people who tortured him did it with an intention of killing him. We hope that he gets better,” Aol said.
Ochan said that as opposition, they will hold a meeting to find a unified position on their next move.
