Gov’t not doing enough to promote tourism in Bugisu-MP

The Sironko Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Florence Nambozo has advised the Ministry of Tourism, Wild Life and Antiquities to treat Bugisu as one of Uganda’s priority tourism destinations.

She said the government had done to little to promote the sub region as tourist destination. Nambozo was meeting tourists from the United Kingdom under the organization “Camps International.” They indent to promote tourism in Sironko district.

“Inadequate accommodation is a big hindrance to the tourism sector in Bugisu region. Support Sironko district to be given concessions to build hotels in those national parks as a way of empowerment and solving the inadequate accommodation issues,” she said. The remarks were targeted at the ministry.

The tourists were last week camping in Budadiri town, Sironko district.

Tony Kageri, the Managing Director of Camps International UK said their target was to make Sironko a popular tourist destination in the eastern region.

The group promised to help in rehabilitation of some schools and also provide scholastic materials to learners.

Nambozo requested the tourists to promote and market Sironko in the UK.

“Sironko is a haven of peace and love so whoever comes to invest here is guaranteed good hospitality as a person and for his or her investment. You can never go wrong when you invest in Sironko,” Nambozo said.
