Ugandans sweep MTN 2019 marathon prizes

Ugandans used the home advantage and good weather to sweep the winners awards at the just concluded MTN 2019 Marathon. This helped to ensure that Ugandan runners kept more than UGX77m in cash prizes at home.

Ugandans claimed all the top three prizes for the men’s category while the women’s category. Phillip Kiplimo won the men’s 42km race and went ahead to set a new race route. He bagged the UGX20M for the gold medal and an additional 12.5m for setting a new course record.

The women’s category was won Adero Nyakisi.

Men:

1st runners up: Fred Musobo – win silver

2nd runners up: Ayeko

The 2019 event saw record participation in which 25000 people took part.

The race  was a wrap up of the marathons that the organisation has run in different regions this year.

In the 21kms event, Kiplimo and Juliet Chekwei took the race, with each receiving AGX 4.5m.
