Kabaka in Germany for specialized health check-up, says Katikkiro Mayiga

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi meeting his subjects in Germany

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has come out to explain why the Kabaka has taken a trip to Europe.

In a proactive move by the Katikkiro, that could be seen as aiming to stop speculation by stating the reasons and whereabouts of Buganda’s monarch arising from among his subjects, Katikkiro Mayiga said Kabaka left the country for Germany for two major reasons – inspecting the activities of his foundation and consult with doctors.

“The kabaka is to also meet health personnels who will help to critically examine his health,” Mayiga told journalists from Bulange in Mengo.

“Ssabasajja is being treated by specialised doctors and we are optimistic that he will be fine,” added Mayiga.

Mayiga’s statement comes in the wake of widely circulating pictures on social media showing the Kabaka emerging from an aircraft.

Katikkiro says the pictures are of Kabaka touching down in Germany where he is expected to meet specialized doctors.

Mayiga said before journalists in Mengo that Kabaka travelled specifically for two reasons with one being to inspect the activities of his Kabaka Foundation in Germany where he will meet different subjects.

In April this year, Mayiga revealed that Kabaka was suffering from allergies.

This however came after a huge backlash from Buganda loyalists following videos that depicted Kabaka in a poor health situation.

Most critics attacked Mayiga for embarrassing the Kabaka when he brought the him into the public while apparently sick and unable to talk properly.

Mayiga has sought to reassure Baganda that Kabaka will be fine because his health is being managed by medical experts.

“Ssabasajja is being treated by specialised doctors and we are optimistic that he will be fine.”
