The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, has directed the Clerk to Parliament, Hon. Adolf Mwesige, to immediately interdict seven senior officials of the Parliament of Uganda pending the final determination of criminal proceedings against them.

According to a statement issued by the Inspectorate of Government, the officials are Chris Ariko Obore, Director of Communications and Public Affairs; Adilo Daniel, Director of Human Resource; Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer; Okwi Emmanuel Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer; Otebata Vincent, Capacity Development Officer; Okema Leonard, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker; and Itute Stella, Office Supervisor in the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms.

The officials are currently on remand in Luzira Prison after they were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on 1 July 2026. They face charges of embezzlement and causing financial loss under Sections 18(a)(i) and (ii), and 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Cap. 116.

The Inspectorate of Government said the directive is based on powers granted to the Inspector General of Government under Article 230 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Section 13(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, Cap. 32, which allow the IGG to issue orders and directions considered necessary and appropriate in the circumstances.

According to the statement, the IGG said that public interest requires that the officials be suspended from exercising the powers and functions of their offices while the criminal case before the Anti-Corruption Court is ongoing.

The Inspectorate of Government said the directive underscores its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of public institutions and ensuring that due process is upheld while the matter is before the courts.
