Dr. Drake Adupa, a highly respected Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from the Lango region, has passed away after a prolonged illness. He died this morning at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in India, where he had been receiving treatment.
Dr. Adupa’s family has confirmed the news, though funeral arrangements are yet to be announced. His wife, Florence Adupa, who is also actively involved in politics as a candidate in the Lira District Woman MP race, informed that he passed away in the early hours of the day.
A distinguished figure in Uganda’s medical community, Dr. Adupa earned his medical degree from Makerere University in 1992. He began his career at Aber Hospital in Oyam District before joining Lira Hospital in 1995, where he was among the original team of six doctors helping to establish and organize the hospital’s departments.
He later pursued advanced studies, completing a master’s degree in obstetrics and gynaecology in 2002, before returning to continue his work at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Over the years, he transitioned into private practice while maintaining an active role in public health education, frequently appearing on radio programs to share medical insights with the community.
Dr. Adupa’s career included extensive consultancy work and technical support for numerous organizations, including Pathfinder International, UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, Action Aid, AVSI, and various government and diocesan health departments. He was widely recognized for mentoring young doctors and serving as a trusted healthcare provider throughout the region.
His passing is a significant loss to Uganda’s medical fraternity and the Lango community, where his contributions to healthcare and public service have left a lasting impact.
