Electoral Commission Updates Polling Dates for Special Interest Groups Ahead of 2026 Elections
The Electoral Commission has announced adjustments to the polling dates for elections of representatives of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at both Parliamentary and Local Government Council levels. The changes aim to enable members of these groups to actively participate in the upcoming General Elections.
According to the Commission, the National Conference for Election of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Representatives to Parliament has been moved from 19th January 2026 to 3rd February 2026, while the election of councillors representing youths, older persons, and PWDs at Sub County/Town/Municipal Division level is now scheduled for 30th January 2026, previously set for 19th January 2026.
Other notable changes include the National Conference for Election of Workers Representatives to Parliament, now on 19th January 2026, and the National Conference for Election of National Female Youth Representative to Parliament, shifted to 6th February 2026 from 28th January 2026. The Regional Conferences for Election of Regional Youths Representatives to Parliament have also been moved forward to 28th January 2026.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, emphasized that, “The above adjustments have been made to enable members of the above elective categories participate in the General Elections (universal adult suffrage) and also effectively participate in their respective electoral college elections.”
