Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been officially sworn in for a new presidential term during a high-profile inauguration ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Uganda, marking what is widely referred to as his seventh term in office.

The ceremony attracted several Heads of State, senior government officials, and international delegations from across Africa and beyond, underscoring Uganda’s continued diplomatic and regional importance.

According to the Electoral Commission, Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama formally declared Museveni the duly elected President following the conclusion of the general elections, confirming his continued leadership for the next five years.

Electoral Process and National Mandate

Public Relations Officer Julius Mucunguzi said the process followed the official electoral roadmap, which began months earlier and led to the swearing-in ceremony after the announcement of results.

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba said the electoral outcome reflects public confidence in the leadership and continuity of national development programmes.

The announcement of results was accompanied by public and political commentary from different stakeholders.

“Kisanja of No More Sleep” Development Agenda

In his address, President Museveni described the new term as a “kisanja of no more sleep,” urging Ugandans to increase productivity and participation in wealth creation programs.

He noted that approximately 67% of households are now engaged in the money economy through initiatives such as, Operation Wealth Creation and Parish Development Model.

He further encouraged the remaining 33% of households to join these programs to accelerate inclusive economic transformation across the country.

Regional and International Attendance

The inauguration was attended by several prominent leaders, including:

- President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo

- President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan

- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia

- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of Zimbabwe

- A U.S. delegation representing the Bureau of African Affairs

- UAE Minister Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, highlighting strengthening Uganda–UAE cooperation

Their presence reinforced Uganda’s diplomatic ties and regional influence in East Africa and beyond.

Constitutional Continuity and Governance

Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka commended the institutional processes that guided the country to the constitutional milestone, describing the occasion as a reaffirmation of Uganda’s stability, continuity, and commitment to the rule of law.
