A total of 8,432 graduands are set to receive degrees and diplomas at the 76th graduation ceremony of Makerere University, which begins on February 24, 2026 in Kampala. The four-day event will run until February 27 at Freedom Square.
During the ceremony, the university will confer 185 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 2,034 Master’s degrees, 6,043 Bachelor’s degrees, 137 postgraduate diplomas and 33 diplomas. The figures represent a 30 percent increase in graduate output compared to the 75th graduation ceremony, a growth the institution attributes to its strategic focus on expanding graduate education under its research-led agenda.
University management says the deliberate prioritization of postgraduate training, research supervision and innovation has contributed significantly to the rise in Master’s and PhD graduands. The increase reflects Makerere University’s continued investment in advanced academic training and research excellence.
The ceremonies will be conducted in phases across the four days. On February 24, graduands from the School of Law, the College of Education and External Studies, the College of Computing and Information Sciences, and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will be awarded degrees and diplomas.
On February 25, students from the College of Natural Sciences, the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-security, the College of Health Sciences and the School of Public Health will graduate.
The February 26 session will feature graduands from Makerere University Business School and the College of Business and Management Sciences.
The ceremony will conclude on February 27 with awards presented to graduands from the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Institute of Gender and Development Studies and the Makerere Institute of Social Research.
University management has announced that access to the campus during the graduation period will be restricted to graduands, their parents or guardians, and accredited service providers in order to ensure security and smooth coordination of the event.
The 76th graduation ceremony is expected to once again highlight Makerere University’s role as a leading public university in Uganda, producing highly skilled professionals and researchers to drive national and regional development.
