Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced a reshuffle of senior Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) commanders.

The changes affect several key military positions, including the Reserve Forces, Land Forces and infantry divisions.

According to the announcement issued by Col Chris Magezi, Acting Director Defence Public Information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA), the transfers and appointments take immediate effect.

Major General Joseph Ssemwanga has been transferred from his position as Deputy Commander of the Land Forces and appointed General Officer Commanding the Reserve Forces.

He replaces Lieutenant General Charles Otema Awany, who is due to retire next week.

Ssemwanga's appointment places him at the helm of the UPDF's Reserve Forces as part of the latest changes in the senior military command structure.

Major General Felix Busizoori, who has been serving as Commander of the 4 Infantry Division, has been appointed Deputy Commander of the Land Forces.

His new assignment moves him from divisional command to a senior position within the Land Forces leadership.

Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, the outgoing Commander of the 3 Infantry Division, has been appointed Commander of the 4 Infantry Division.

He takes over the position previously held by Maj Gen Busizoori.

Brigadier General Micheal Hyeroba, who has been serving as Deputy Commander of the 1 Infantry Division, has been appointed Commander of the 3 Infantry Division.

The appointment completes the latest changes affecting the leadership of the infantry divisions.

The Defence Public Information office congratulated the officers on their new appointments and wished them success in their respective duties.
