The Government of Uganda has officially launched Postcom, a new national online shopping platform operated by Posta Uganda, designed to strengthen digital trade and expand access to online markets for individuals and businesses across the country. The platform was unveiled at the Uganda Media Centre and is expected to play a key role in advancing Uganda’s digital economy.

Posta Uganda Managing Director Mr. James Arinaitwe said the initiative is part of efforts to modernize the postal service and ensure it remains relevant in a rapidly evolving digital environment. “The post office is not going away,” he said. “Even 100 years from now, it will still be there, but delivering different kinds of services.”

He explained that Postcom will allow users to list goods and services online, enabling sellers to connect directly with buyers while using Posta Uganda’s logistics network for efficient delivery across the country. “If you have goods to sell, even small items, put them on the platform. We will connect you with buyers and deliver them wherever they are,” he said.

According to the management, Postcom will also support service-based offerings such as consulting, making the platform inclusive for a wide range of entrepreneurs and professionals. Mr. Arinaitwe further noted, “You will put your products here free of charge, meaning sellers will be charged a fee to post their goods and services on postcom,” emphasizing accessibility for users.

The Board Chairperson of Posta Uganda, Mr. Balyejjusa Sulaiman Kirunda, said the platform aligns with national efforts to drive economic growth through digital transformation. “We cannot grow the economy without going digital,” he said. “This platform will help Ugandans reach wider markets, increase sales, and improve household incomes.” He encouraged entrepreneurs, small businesses, and individuals to embrace the platform to promote locally made products.

The launch is supported by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, which provided the technological framework for the system’s development. Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga, the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, said Postcom is a direct outcome of Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap (FY2023/24–2027/28) and will contribute to building an inclusive and digitally empowered economy.

In his statement, the minister said, “Today at the Uganda Media Centre, I had the honor of officially launching Postcom, a national e-commerce platform developed by Posta Uganda.

This innovation is a direct outcome of Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap (FY2023/24–2027/28), which is guiding our journey toward a more inclusive, competitive, and digitally empowered economy. Postcom provides a secure and accessible online marketplace where Ugandans, especially MSMEs, can showcase, sell, and buy locally produced goods with ease.

Through Postcom, we are unlocking new opportunities for our entrepreneurs to access wider markets both locally and internationally, while leveraging Posta Uganda’s nationwide network to ensure efficient last-mile delivery. This platform strengthens the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) initiative, promotes digital inclusion, and enhances household incomes across the country.

I commend the Board and Management of Posta Uganda for this forward-looking initiative and call upon MDAs, the private sector, and all Ugandan entrepreneurs to embrace Postcom as a tool for economic transformation.”

Postcom will operate under the supervision of the Uganda Communications Commission to ensure compliance, safety, and proper regulation of online services. The government has assured the public that the platform is secure and aims to improve trust in digital transactions as more Ugandans adopt online commerce.

With the launch of Postcom, Uganda aims to expand digital trade opportunities, strengthen local enterprise growth, and position itself more competitively in the regional and global digital economy.
