President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has backed plans to expand the Sino Uganda-Mbale Industrial Park and establish a new industrial park in Lusenke, Kayunga District, in a move expected to strengthen Uganda’s manufacturing sector and attract more investment.

The President gave his support after meeting a delegation from Sino Uganda-Mbale Industrial Park led by Tian Tang Group Chairman Mr. Paul Zhang at State House Uganda.

The delegation briefed President Museveni on the progress of Tian Tang Group’s investments in Uganda, including the continued growth of Sino Uganda-Mbale Industrial Park, which currently hosts 85 factories and has reached full capacity.

The meeting also focused on plans to develop a new industrial park in Lusenke, Kayunga District, with the long-term vision of transforming the area into a fully-fledged economic zone.

Sino Uganda-Mbale Industrial Park, developed by Tian Tang Group, has become one of Uganda’s important industrial hubs, supporting the country’s push to increase manufacturing, create jobs, and promote value addition.

The industrial park, located in Mbale City in Eastern Uganda, has attracted investment in several manufacturing sectors, including steel, textiles, electronics, household products, and other industries.

The growth of the facility reflects Uganda’s wider industrialisation strategy, which aims to encourage local production, increase exports, reduce reliance on imported goods, and create employment opportunities through private sector investment.

With the existing Mbale industrial park operating at full capacity, the planned expansion is expected to provide additional space for manufacturers and support further investment in Uganda’s industrial sector.

The development comes as Uganda continues efforts to position industrial parks as centres for manufacturing, technology transfer, skills development, and economic growth.

State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development in charge of Privatization and Investment, Hon. Aminah Mukalazi, said the President’s support for the expansion and new industrial park plans demonstrates continued confidence in Uganda’s investment potential.

The minister said the developments represent another strong vote of confidence in Uganda as a destination for investors.

The proposed industrial park in Lusenke, Kayunga District, is expected to become a major investment project aimed at expanding Uganda’s industrial base.

The vision of developing the facility into a fully-fledged economic zone aligns with government efforts to spread industrial development beyond existing urban centres and create new opportunities for manufacturing and employment.

The project is expected to contribute to economic activity in Kayunga and surrounding areas by attracting businesses, supporting supply chains, and creating new opportunities for workers and entrepreneurs.

Tian Tang Group has been one of the Chinese investors involved in Uganda’s manufacturing sector, with its investments contributing to industrial development and employment creation.

During the State House meeting, the company highlighted the progress of its Ugandan operations, including the contribution of Sino Uganda-Mbale Industrial Park to manufacturing, employment, and skills development.

The latest expansion plans underline the growing partnership between Uganda and international investors in supporting industrial growth.

Uganda has identified industrialisation as a key driver of economic transformation, with government policies focusing on increasing manufacturing capacity, attracting foreign direct investment, promoting exports, and creating jobs.

The expansion of Sino Uganda-Mbale Industrial Park and the proposed Lusenke economic zone are expected to support these goals by increasing Uganda’s industrial capacity and strengthening the country’s position as an investment destination in East Africa.
