President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni have hosted renowned Nigerian Pentecostal leader Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, at State House Entebbe ahead of the consecration of Pastor Patience Rwabwogo as a bishop.
Museveni said he and Maama Janet welcomed the Adeboyes, who are in Uganda to attend the consecration of their daughter, Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026.
In a message shared by the President, Museveni reflected on the relationship between Christianity and African culture, saying Christian teachings had added value to the continent's traditional values.
He highlighted teachings including loving one's neighbour, showing love even to people with whom one disagrees, and the lesson of the Good Samaritan.
According to Museveni, such teachings are consistent with what he described as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) principle of putting interests above identity.
“These values have strengthened our heritage as a people,” Museveni said, while welcoming Pastor Adeboye and other guests attending the forthcoming ceremony.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), arrived in Uganda with his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, on August 19.
The couple were received at Entebbe by Pastor Patience Rwabwogo and her husband, Odrek Rwabwogo, together with Ugandan church leaders and representatives of the RCCG.
Adeboye is regarded by Rwabwogo as her spiritual father and is among the prominent international Christian leaders expected to attend her consecration.
The Nigerian preacher said on arrival that he was happy to return to Uganda and expressed his belief that God would bless the country. It is his fourth visit to Uganda, according to reports.
His previous visit was in June 2019, when he held a leadership conference at Kololo Independence Grounds and led a worship event themed “Greater Glory Has Come.”
Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, the founder and lead pastor of Covenant Nations Church, will be consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop on August 23.
The ceremony will take place at Covenant Nations Church's Covenant Hill in Maya and will coincide with the church's 20th anniversary celebrations.
Rwabwogo founded Covenant Nations Church 20 years ago, and the upcoming consecration is being presented as a major milestone in both her ministry and the church's history.
The ceremony is expected to attract church leaders, ministers, worshippers and guests from Uganda and abroad.
American evangelist Bishop Dr. LaDonna C. Osborn is expected to preside over the consecration. Osborn is also in Uganda ahead of the event and was recently received by President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni at State House Entebbe.
Ahead of Sunday's consecration, Pastor Adeboye is scheduled to participate in activities aimed at Christian ministers and church leaders.
He is expected to offer pastoral mentorship during a ministers' conference in Kampala, with the session also being streamed for audiences unable to attend physically.
The involvement of Adeboye and Osborn has given the consecration an international dimension, with prominent Christian leaders from Nigeria, the United States and other countries expected to participate in the celebrations.
Museveni's meeting with Adeboye comes days after he and Janet Museveni hosted Bishop LaDonna C. Osborn.
During that meeting, the President and First Lady reflected on faith, leadership and the longstanding relationship between the Osborn family and Uganda.
For Museveni, the gathering has also provided an opportunity to emphasise the role of Christian values in society.
His message linked teachings such as love, reconciliation and concern for others to broader ideas of social cohesion and national unity.
As Pastor Patience Rwabwogo prepares to take up the episcopal office, the August 23 ceremony is set to combine a major personal milestone with two decades of Covenant Nations Church ministry.
