Uganda's Ministry of Education and Sports issued a statement on January 16, 2026, announcing that all schools and educational institutions across the country, including international schools, universities, and tertiary institutions, will resume classes on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The revised reopening date replaces the earlier schedule of February 2, 2026, and was set to ensure student safety and smooth coordination during the General Elections 2026. Education authorities emphasize that the adjustment is in line with the national school calendar 2026.

The Ministry confirmed that Term One of the 2026 academic year will run from February 10 to May 1, 2026, urging school administrators to strictly follow the revised dates to prevent disruptions in the academic program.

Parents, guardians, students, headteachers, principals, and university vice chancellors are encouraged to note the updated schedule and make necessary preparations for the term. The Ministry stressed that compliance with the new dates is essential for maintaining order and ensuring that learners return to school safely.

The announcement was signed by Dr. Kedrace R. Turyagyenda, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports of Uganda, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding learners while supporting smooth operations across the education sector.
