AFCON 2027 Preparations Intensify as CAF Workshop Launches Joint Planning for Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania
Preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 have taken a significant step forward following the arrival of a Confederation of African Football (CAF) delegation in Uganda for a two-day planning workshop aimed at strengthening coordination among the PAMOJA host nations, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, said the workshop marks a key milestone in formally kick-starting Uganda’s structured preparations for the continental tournament. He clarified that the engagement is a collaborative planning exercise and not an official CAF inspection visit, emphasizing its role in aligning priorities for the next phase of delivery.
According to Mugimba, the workshop reflects CAF’s continued commitment to working closely with the three host countries to ensure a successful AFCON 2027 tournament. Discussions are focusing on critical operational areas including security, infrastructure development, finance, procurement, media coordination, and commercial operations.
He further acknowledged the role of First Lady Janet Museveni in hosting the meeting and emphasized the importance of strong coordination mechanisms across all sectors involved in the tournament preparations.
On infrastructure readiness, Mugimba noted that the government has already released substantial funding for the development of training facilities, demonstrating a strong commitment to ensuring Uganda is prepared to meet tournament standards.
He also advised proprietors of accommodation facilities to seek authorization through the Uganda Tourism Board, clarifying that the Local Organizing Committee does not designate tourist establishments. With the tournament drawing closer, he encouraged investors and property owners to position themselves early to benefit from emerging opportunities in the hospitality sector.
Mugimba added that the private sector stands to gain significantly from AFCON 2027, urging businesses to prepare in advance for opportunities expected across tourism, hospitality, transport, and related industries.
