FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo Hassim has led a two-day inspection tour of Hoima City Stadium and Kabalega International Airport as Uganda intensifies preparations to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches.

Magogo, who also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC), was accompanied by a FUFA delegation to assess the readiness of the key facilities ahead of the qualifiers, which begin in September 2026.

The inspection focused on critical areas required to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, including the playing surface, dressing rooms, floodlights, media facilities, fan areas and overall access infrastructure around Hoima City Stadium. The delegation also assessed Kabalega International Airport, which is expected to play a key role in facilitating the movement of teams, officials and supporters.

Speaking after the inspection, Magogo praised the progress made on the facilities and expressed confidence in Hoima's ability to host international football. "It has been a fruitful assessment period. The Government has done a great job here in Hoima. We shall align with all key stakeholders because we have a dream to host all our qualifiers here in Hoima," he said.

Uganda Cranes have been drawn in Group G of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers alongside Tunisia, Libya and Botswana.

Although Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania have already secured automatic qualification for AFCON 2027 as co-hosts of the tournament, CAF requires the three countries to participate in the qualifying campaign. The matches will be used to keep the host nations competitively active ahead of the continental finals.

FUFA has indicated that Hoima City Stadium will host all of Uganda Cranes' AFCON 2027 qualifying fixtures, subject to continued compliance with CAF requirements.

The inspection marks another milestone in Uganda's preparations for both the AFCON qualifiers and the successful co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
