Uganda Airlines has announced a temporary disruption to its long-haul operations after two of its wide-body aircraft were taken out of service for unscheduled maintenance, affecting key international routes including London and Mumbai.

In a travel update issued Friday, the national carrier said the aircraft were grounded due to technical maintenance requirements, emphasizing that passenger safety and comfort remain its highest priority.

The disruption primarily affects the airline’s long-haul services to London and Mumbai, two of its most strategic international routes.

Rebooking and Passenger Support

Uganda Airlines said its Customer Experience and Operations teams are actively working to minimize inconvenience for affected travelers.

The airline outlined the following measures:

- Rebooking on partner airlines to ensure passengers reach their destinations as close to their original schedules as possible.

- Schedule adjustments, including flight consolidations or delays where necessary.

- Flexible rebooking options, allowing passengers to change travel dates without incurring change fees.

Passengers impacted by the disruption are being contacted directly via phone and email with updated flight information.

The airline has urged customers, particularly those traveling on London and Mumbai routes, to regularly check flight status updates through its official website.

Fleet Pressure on Long-Haul Operations

Uganda Airlines operates a relatively small long-haul fleet, and the temporary withdrawal of two aircraft significantly affects operational capacity. Aviation analysts note that airlines with limited wide-body fleets are particularly vulnerable to schedule disruptions when aircraft require unscheduled maintenance.

The airline said it is “working around the clock” to source the required components and technical expertise needed to return the aircraft to service and fully restore the flight schedule.

Leadership Transition 

The disruption comes at a time of transition for the national carrier. This month, President Yoweri Museveni directed the appointment of aviation veteran Girma Wake as acting Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines.

The leadership change was aimed at strengthening governance and operational efficiency at the state-owned airline as it continues to expand its international footprint.

Industry observers say restoring stability to long-haul operations will be critical in maintaining passenger confidence, particularly on competitive intercontinental routes.

In its statement, Uganda Airlines expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their patience as it works to normalize operations.
